18 Must-Have Items for Living in the Desert of Phoenix, Arizona

Relocating to Phoenix, Arizona can be both an exciting and daunting experience. With its unique desert landscapes and vibrant culture, it’s no wonder that many people are drawn to this city. However, before you make the move, there are certain items that you should consider having to make your transition as smooth as possible. Here are some essential items that our family uses on a regular basis that allow us to enjoy the benefits of living in Phoenix while also preparing for the extreme summer sun and heat!

This has been the go to water bottle for our 4 year old daughter.  We’ve liked it so much, we’ve bought three of them!  Perfect for taking to school or anywhere else on the go.
My wife loves collecting water bottles.  I think she has about 18 of them.  But this is now her favorite for several reasons.  It is the perfect size for car travel, insulated to stay super cold and it can be packed away easily without spilling.
When in AZ, you will probably want to explore.  And if you do, you will want to pack properly and make sure you have an adequate water supply.  These CamelBak’s are the best for hikes when you don’t need carry much.
Even if we find you the perfect home in the best neighborhood, you still might want the added security of a camera at your front door.  Keep track of all your amazon deliveries and know when to avoid the front door if the annoying solicitor stops by to harass you.
Having clean air filters on hand is essential to living in Phoenix, especially during the summer months.  Your air conditioning unit will be working non stop and you need to make sure that your air flow is always running properly.  Make sure to get the standard filters as using the higher end filters can be detrimental to your HVAC system.

If you like your patio furniture, you will want to protect it.  We have been using these covers for years and it is much better for the covers to take the brunt of the sun instead of your nice furniture.  Trust me, these will save you a lot of money in the long run if you use them.
As hot as it gets during the summer, our family still likes to take the time to enjoy the backyard.  But just like the patio furniture, it’s important to protect yourself from the direct sun which is why we own several umbrellas that we can place all around our yard and pool when being out and about.
When you live in Phoenix during the summer, one of the best ways to relax is to enjoy some time by the pool.  And whether you are just with your family, or have a bunch of friends coming over, it will be likely that you will want a few cold beverages by your side and ready to go so you don’t have to go inside.
The dry air in Phoenix can be brutal on your kids, especially if they have allergies or aren’t feeling 100%.  Using a humidifier can do wonders to help them sleep through the night.  It might even help you too!
Protect your eyes!  The sun seems much brighter here in AZ and you will definitely notice it without sunglasses.
Seems like a no brainer here but we want to remind you just in case.  And it’s important to wear all year long, not just for the summer months.
If you’ve got your sunscreen on and your umbrellas up, you can now get ready for some pool time and we always love to floating around with a cold beverage in hand.
You can pay someone a big chunk of money to come out every month or you can do some spraying on your own.  Thankfully, there aren’t too many critters that we deal with but my wife hates when she sees any sort of cockroach roaming around the house so we make sure to put a layer of protection around the house for good measure.
A definitely must have during the summer.  It’s crazy how hot your car will get when in the direct sunlight.  Make sure to crack your windows a bit as well to allow for air flow.
Hydration is always important, especially if you like to be active.  And if you don’t want to lug a lot of water around everywhere you go, these little packets may be the answer for you.  Adds a little flavor as well!
This has been a great addition for us, and even more helpful during the summer when you don’t want to turn on the oven or cooktop in your kitchen when your a/c is constantly trying to keep your house cool.
Just like sunblock, wearing head protection is crucial here in Arizona when you are spending any amount of time outdoors.  This hat has been my go-to for years and I love it.  Great for style and all-around functionality.
If you have little ones and you have a pool, you absolutely will need a pool fence.  There are a lot of options you can choose from but we think these guys are the best when it comes to overall protection and value while still keeping your backyard ascetically pleasing.
