Old Town Scottsdale

Old Town Scottsdale is the historic and cultural core of the city, and it is the one part of Scottsdale that actually rewards walking. What started as the city's original townsite in the early 1900s has grown into a dense mix of art galleries, boutique shopping, restaurants, and nightlife, all within a compact, walkable grid just east of Scottsdale Road.

The neighborhood breaks into a few distinct pockets. The Arts District along Main Street and Marshall Way is packed with galleries and hosts the popular Scottsdale ArtWalk every Thursday evening. Fifth Avenue leans into Western-themed shopping and souvenirs, a nod to Old Town's cowboy-era roots, complete with the bronze horse statues and covered wagon sculptures that give the area its postcard look. The Entertainment District, centered around Camelback Road and Scottsdale Road, is where the bars, rooftop lounges, and nightlife cluster - a major draw for the weekend-getaway crowd, for better or worse depending on what a resident is looking for.

Housing here looks different from the rest of Scottsdale: mid-rise and high-rise condos and lofts dominate, many within walking distance of restaurants and the Soleri Bridge over the Arizona Canal. Scottsdale Fashion Square, one of the largest luxury malls in the Southwest, anchors the western edge, and Scottsdale Stadium, spring training home of the San Francisco Giants, sits right in the middle of the neighborhood.

This density and energy come with tradeoffs. Old Town is louder and busier than almost anywhere else in Scottsdale, parking can be a genuine hassle on weekend nights, and it skews toward renters, young professionals, and second-home buyers rather than families with school-age kids. But for buyers who want to walk to dinner, gallery-hop on a Thursday night, and be five minutes from everything, there is no substitute for it in the Valley.

Bottom line: Old Town is Scottsdale's most walkable, most urban neighborhood - ideal for buyers who want nightlife and culture at their doorstep, less so for anyone chasing quiet and space.
